Established in 2009, Breezemere is located in the heart of Marlborough, overlooked by Mount Tapuae-o-Uenuku on New Zealand’s South Island.
Breezemere Wines are a family owned and operated sheep unit and vineyard located on the southern side of the Awatere River, Marlborough, NZ. First purchased in 2006 we ran sheep, cattle and a cropping operation. The first grapes were planted in 2009 and were an instant success, receiving several accolades for wines produced from there. In 2015 and 2016 we planted the most fertile land and have never looked back. The unique soil, aspect and shelter lends itself to consistently good crops as well as maintaining the distinctive Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc flavours; with a ‘Breezemere’ twist on it.
We continue to operate a successful commercial sheep breeding and finishing unit here at Breezemere; where the free-range, grass-fed, low stocked sheep happily graze the hills during the grape growing season and assist us with weed control and nutrient re-cycling in the winter/dormant months.
The area in which Breezemere wines are grown is, what we think, the best part of our vineyard. The ‘crown jewel’ north-facing aspect of our special property is reserved exclusively to create premium wines. It offers deep, rich fertile soils that have been blown out of the Awatere River bed over millions of years by the Valleys famous Nor’ Wester wind. The vineyard rows run precisely north to south with the land having a slight ‘tilt’ towards the north to capture the full benefits of the Marlborough summer sun.
We have a passion and reputation for producing great tasting grapes, which are then be made into top quality Marlborough Wine. Long term sustainability underpins what we do here; we want our kids, and their kids, to have the opportunity to farm Breezemere. We take the responsibility of looking after the land, and making it better for future generations, seriously. We at Breezemere continue to improve, innovate and strive for excellence now and into the future.
